Beaches
The word “bonita” in Spanish translates to mean beautiful, so it’s no wonder that the beaches that line the coastline of our city are exactly that – truly beautiful. People from all over the world leave inclement weather behind and come to visit the sun and sand on the pristine shorelines of Bonita Beach, Barefoot Beach and the Lover’s Key area.

All three beaches will keep you wide-eyed with their miles of soft, white sand, great shelling, occasional dolphin sightings, and turtle nesting grounds that beachgoers of all ages will appreciate. Swimmers, snorkelers, rafters, kayakers, and windsurfers will appreciate the clear waters just steps away from the sand.

“Dog Beach,” as it is affectionately called, is the only place where pets are permitted on county-owned beaches. It is located just north of Bonita Beach, just over the New Pass Bridge, and offers free parking and an off-leash run for your pet. While dogs are allowed in the park at Lover’s Key, they are not allowed on the beach itself.

A trolley service connecting all beach areas from park and ride lots is available from mid-December through the Easter holiday for 50 cents. A trolley schedule can be picked up at the Chamber. For more information, contact LeeTran at 239-275-8726.

Beach parking stickers are also available for purchase for $40, even if you are a non-resident. For more information, call the Department of Lakes & Recreation at (239) 461-7400.

Don’t forget your sunscreen!
